Nama, the Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company, has introduced floating and mobile water desalination plants in the Musandam Governorate, marking a first in the Sultanate of Oman and the Middle East.

The floating desalination plants are the first of their kind in the Arab world, offering desalination, transportation, and distribution operations.

The plants use the best international technologies in reverse osmosis, benefitting 70 marine villages with their services.

The floating desalination plants also contribute to the in-country value added by employing traditional craft industry in water projects, promoting investment in the country to develop the water organization, supporting small and medium projects, and aiding commercial, tourism, and fish activities with marine sophistication.

The introduction of the floating and mobile water desalination plants by Nama is set to bring significant change to the water supply and distribution system in the region, addressing water scarcity and boosting the local economy.
