UAE’s Enviromena Power Systems and Spain’s TSK have signed a contract worth $128 mn with Jordan’s government to build a solar power plant in southern Jordan.
The funding for the 103 megawatt solar plant project will be provided by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
Signing the contract for Jordan was minister of energy and mineral resources Ibrahim Saif, Enviromena Power Systems chief executive officer Sami Khoreibi and Ignacio Garcia-Arango, TSK’s Technical-Commercial Director.
Minister Saif said in a statement, following the signing that the project which will be located in the country’s southern region of Al-Queira, some 200km south of the capital, and will assist in increasing the contributions of renewable energy to power in the Hashemite Kingdom by 100 megawatts.
He also revealed that the project forms part of the United Arab Emirates’ $150mn share of the Gulf Cooperation Council states grant.
Renewable energies, he said, will provide around 1,000 megawatt (20%) of the country’s power by 2018.
