Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced a new partnership with Siemens International involving a long-term contract to maintain six gas turbines and six power generators at Jebel Ali’s M-Station.
The deal, valued at around US $500 million, will see Siemens provide manpower, equipment, tools and spare parts to maintain equipment to ensure turbines and generators are fit for operation for around 100,000 hours. Parts set to be provided include turbines, blades and vanes that are exposed to extreme temperature and pressure within the turbines themselves.
“The total cost of the contract is AED 2.063 billion and will last for twelve to fifteen years. This contract will greatly contribute to achieving the highest levels of operational availability and reliability, especially during the summer months. Furthermore, it will reduce the manpower required for performing maintenance of these gas turbines and generators, and it will have a positive impact on the environment by enhancing efficiency and subsequently reduce gas emissions,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA CEO and MD.
The maintenance programme first began in 2008 with a similar strategic contract for the units of the power generation and water desalination station (L2).
DEWA says that the strategic long-term maintenance programmes are the largest of their kind “at world level for such units”.
