Progress made on Dubai's deep tunnel storm water system

Dubai Municipality has announced the successful completion of package 1 of its deep tunnel storm water system project.

Package 1 comprised a pumping station with a capacity to move 30 cubic metres of water per second, as well as an overflow structure with 500m sea outfall, plus three 2,000mm outfall pipes at Jebel Ali.

The government has been working with Montgomery Watson Harza as feasibility and infrastructure consultant and project manager, and Archirodon Group as MEI, civil and infrastructure contractor on the $272million project.

The development, which is 27% complete, will include construction of a terminal pump station, hydraulic actuated penstocks and valves, HVAC, power supply distribution network, power transformers and switchgear, as well as all associated buildings, inclusive of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control works and external works.

Construction started in September 2018 and is scheduled for completion in 2020.
