Siemens presents the future of power and water in Muscat

Siemens has highlighted the future of the power and water industry by showcasing comprehensive examples on how companies can increase their competitiveness through digitalisation.

This was at the 4th Oman Energy and Water Conference and Exhibition, organised by the Public Authority for Electricity and Water in partnership with Omanexpo, from April 30 to May 2,

With the expansion in renewable energy projects, Oman is working to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by embracing new technologies to create a reliable and more diversified energy mix.

To further support the Sultanate to achieve its goals, Siemens Gamesa, the company’s renewable energy arm, is showcasing a wide range of wind turbine models, designed for different conditions.

As is well known, utility operators face several challenges to ensure affordability, availability and security of supply. At the same time, big data and digital solutions are transforming the way utilities manage their operations, all over the world, providing operators with competitive benefits,” said Claudia Vergueiro Massei, CEO of Siemens in Oman.

“In Oman, we are committed to co-creating the future with our partners and customers by developing not only new technologies, but also new business models to meet their goals in a sustainable way.”

Featured solutions cover the entire lifecycle of plants – from planning through operation and maintenance as well as digital services, helping to sustainably reduce energy consumption and lower overall cost.

These include Siemens’ gas turbines as well as the company’s cross-fleet of power services that improve life-cycle performance of power generation equipment, whether it was manufactured by Siemens or other OEMs.

Other innovations featured are Siemens’ 3D-printed models for the company’s SGT-400 and SGT-800 gas turbines as well as a number of spare parts for industrial gas turbines, completely produced using Additive Manufacturing technology.

Maintaining stability is increasingly important in today’s energy mix, which features a growing share of renewables, and where it is often necessary to compensate for fluctuations in power supply.

With this in mind, Massei will deliver a keynote address on “Producing Green Hydrogen” during the Oman Solar Forum. Speaking on May 2, Massei will explain why hydrogen is an ideal solution as a multi-functional energy carrier and storage concept, and how it can enable large-scale energy storage. Siemens Gamesa experts will also participate in the roundtable discussions.
