Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has signed an agreement with Cityland Real Estate Development, an investment holding arm of Cityland Group to provide district cooling services to Cityland Mall, at Global Village in Dubai, with a total capacity of 14,000 Refrigeration Tonnes (RT).

The agreement reflects growing adoption of district cooling technology by real estate industry that now invests largely in sustainable technologies such as district cooling which drives higher returns on investments to the businesses.

The project, which will be having a total investment of AED 150 Million by Empower, will be started commissioning from August 2018.

The agreement was signed by H. H. Sheikh Theyab Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Cityland Group, and Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, at the Cityland Mall Site Office.

Sheikh Theyab Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan said: ‘This significant agreement with Empower will drive environmental as well as economical returns while making a major impact on Cityland Mall. As the world’s first nature inspired shopping destination, the unique design and development of the mall will ensure environmental sustainability while being an attractive destination for residents and tourists.”

We are proud to always be the first choice of the major real-estate developers as this reflects the trust in our services, which also prompts us to serve our customers with utmost priority. We are happy that we have been chosen to serve Cityland Mall with eco-friendly district cooling systems,” said Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO, Empower.

“This reflects Empower's ability to support Dubai's pioneering role in reducing carbon emissions, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Empower aims to increase its production capacity and expand its portfolio with new projects this year, through signing agreements with more local developers to adopt district cooling.

Cityland Mall will be the only mega shopping destination to be unveiled in 2018 and is poised to become a key attraction for both residents and visitors. It will feature over 350 retail outlets, unique dining options, a variety of entertainment offerings and an expansive ‘Central Park’ – a 200,000 sq ft. botanical garden that will form the nucleus of the single-storey circular-shaped mall.

Empower currently serves 1000 buildings of various uses that include residential,  and commercial buildings, hospitals, shopping malls, schools and universities, and the company has served 7 out of 11 iconic buildings in Dubai. Empower started its service in 2004 with two buildings served with its district cooling.

The company is expecting to increase the number of buildings it is serving on a fast pace, so as to meet the strategies of Dubai on enhancing the best practices in projects and operations which will help in saving the environment and ensure the best future for coming generations.

Empower currently operates 1.34 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Business Bay, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens, Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai Design District and International Media Production Zone, among others.
