WEPower gets Aramco endorsement for May event
Oil co surges into power market as principle sponsor of WEPower 2011
Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest producer of oil, has announced their support and principle sponsorship of WEPower 2011, the largest water and power conference and exhibition in Saudi Arabia.
Power generation in the region is in need of huge investment to meet rising demands, with pressure being applied to state bodies such as ECRA and SEC to meet capacity. This is echoed by Musaab Almulla, Head of Energy & Cogeneration group in Power Systems Planning at Saudi Aramco stating; “Saudi Aramco hopes the sponsorship of this important event will play a key factor in driving national power and water toward highly efficient utilization”.
Musaab Almulla continues by saying “WEPower is recognised as the largest national event of power and water in the Kingdom.”
Demand for power in Saudi Arabia grew last year in the kingdom by more than 8 percent and is expected to grow to more than 60,000 megawatt by 2020. For Saudi Arabia to meet this demand, investments need to be raised to US$266.7 billion through to 2025.
Mamdouh Elgohary, Exhibition Manager of WEPower says “The principle sponsorship of Saudi Aramco is a key indication of how much the event has grown since its inauguration 7 years ago and demonstrates the need for continued growth within the sectors.”
The combined conference and exhibition is the only taking place in the Eastern Province, an industrial hub for water and power in Saudi Arabia. Initiatives from both water and power sectors will be on display throughout the exhibition, with Saudi Aramco due to demonstrate several of their efficiency initiatives in the power sectors, including the cogeneration programme and renewable energy initiatives.
WEPower takes place from 15-17th May at the Dhahran International Exhibitions Centre, Dammam, Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
