Kuwait warns of potential Ramadan power cuts
But ministry official denies 'scheduled outages' as a solution
A senior official has warned that Kuwait may see more power cuts during Ramadan this year as a result of increased electricity consumption.
The unnamed representative from the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) said that Kuwait is already using 9,783MW daily, out of an available total of 11,000MW produced by local power plants, according to the Kuwait Times daily.
Malfunctions at local power plants and substations are expected to continue, the source added, as a result of ageing equipment and a lack of maintenance.
However, the MEW official told the newspaper that Kuwait would not be implementing a programme of scheduled outages to alleviate the problem.
