Source: Kuwaiti MEW neglected power infrastructure
Maintenance and repair works were not carried out by ministry.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) failed to carry out maintenance and repair work in its power generation and T&D sector in the run up to a power crisis that saw demand reach 99 percent of installed capacity last week, an unnamed source in the ministry was quoted by the Alam Al-Youm newspaper. The ministry also failed to make adequate preparations for emergencies, the source said.
The MEW has also delayed awarding the tender for the new Al Zour power plant until August, having been unhappy with the bids it had received so far, the Al-Sabah daily report.
