Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) approved 8,325 schematics and project designs between January and mid-June 2017, through its Smart Plan services platform.

Programmes approved by SEWA include 4,565 smart plans for electricity projects, 1,691 smart plans for water, and 2,069 smart plans for gas projects.

The Smart Plan service was launched by SEWA's common services management team.

Maryam Obaid Bin Hashim, director of the common services management department, said the Smart Plan service has reduced transaction clearance waiting periods from 45 minutes to eight minutes.

Remarking on the development, Rashid Al Leem, chairman of SEWA, said the authority will continue to work towards the Sharjah government's smart transformation, WAM reported.

This January, it was revealed that infrastructure spending accounts for 30% of Sharjah's 2017 budget.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud Al Qasimi, chairman of the Central Department of Finance in the UAE emirate, added that the budget amounts to $5.9bn (AED22bn), making it the largest in Sharjah's history.
