ADPC awards contract to Larsen&Toubro
Company to supply power transmission to KPIZ project.
The Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has announced on Wednesday that it awarded a procurement and construction contract of around US$81 million to Larsen&Toubro to deliver power distribution systems for the Khalifa Port & Industrial Zone (KPIZ) project in Taweelah.
The contract includes the design, construction, testing and commissioning of the electrical medium voltage power supply via a 33 kV power cable network and three 33kV/11kV primary distribution substations, which will provide the main power supply for the entire Phase IA of Khalifa Port. It also includes the construction of civil buildings with utilities such as air conditioning, fire protection and lighting systems.
Work is due to begin immediately and is scheduled for completion by May 2012.
KPIZ is a multi-billion dollar project designed as a multi-purpose facility that involves the construction of a container and industrial port in addition to the development of over 100 square kilometers of industrial, logistics, commercial, educational, and residential special economic and free zones in the first phase.
The port is part of the strategic vision for the Abu Dhabi’s industrial and economic diversification by serving as a key hub for large scale industrial investments.
Larsen&Toubro is a Mumbai-based construction and construction equipment company, with a workforce of around 35.000.
ADPC is the developer and regulator of ports and industrial zones in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
