The UAE's Ministry of Finance (MOF) and Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) have inked an agreement to facilitate the latter's acceptance of service fee payments using the e-Dirham system.

E-Dirham's second generation was launched in 2011 with additional flexibility to integrate with e-government services and develop payment methods to further e-collection.

Government entities in the country have already adopted e-Dirham to boost cashless payments.

MOF and FEWA's agreement was signed by Younis Haji Al Khoori, undersecretary of MOF and Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, the director-general of FEWA.

Al Khoori said the latest move is part of MOF's "commitment to [continue] working on smart government services and developing the e-Dirham system".

According to WAM, Saleh expressed confidence that the agreement would enhance customer service on FEWA's behalf, especially in terms of fee collection.
