The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) has opened a new substation in Ras Al Khaimah in a bid to ease power overloads and repetitive outages during the scorching summer months.

The substation is the third in Al Dheit area. “The new power station will fulfil the electricity needs of the Emirates National School Complex and New Dheit area to the north of the emirate,” Mohammed Saleh, Director General of FEWA, said. The substation — built at a cost of Dh54.42 million — has a capacity of 75MVA. “The 33/11KV-voltage substation contains three transmitters, six feeders and three switches.

“The new power station will meet the needs of existing and future residential, commercial and industrial areas of Shaikh Khalifa city, reduce pressure on existing stations, and help find a way out for complaints about insufficient power and repetitive power cuts in RAK,” Saleh added.

Another substation is under construction at Dheit hospital, to support the infrastructural and incessant expansions in RAK.
