A group of German investors intends to build a 1-GW solar power complex in Duqm, central-eastern Oman, a senior official from one of the firms told the Times of Oman.

Wais Ahmadudin, CEO of Mittelpunkt Personal GmbH, said as cited by the newspaper that eight firms have teamed up with the main promoter -- Scholl Wais Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH Investment Trust. He named Grune Planet Energie Ineternazional LLC as the local partner.

Ahmadudin told the Times of Oman that an expert team is expected to file a detailed project proposal with the government within three to four weeks. The plan is for the German investment trusts to provide the needed funds, technology and training for the project. They will source solar panels from German manufacturers, the article says.

If approved, it will take five years for the project to be implemented, Ahmadudin added.
