ENGIE, Marubeni and Mitsui vie for Oman plant
Three giants lead consortiums for 2,600MW power project, OPWP says.
French giant ENGIE (formerly GDF SUEZ) and Japanese firms Mitsui and Marubeni are leading consortiums to develop Oman’s newest independent power project (IPP).
Oman Power and Water Procurement Co (OPWP) received the bids for the tender to build a 2,600MW plant over two sites at Ibri and Sohar by 2017/2018.
OPWP revealed the bids in a statement on its website which did not give further details of the offers received.
The natural gas feedstock for the project will be sold to the winning developer at a pre-determined price by the government, while the sole purchaser of power offtake will be OPWP.
