Musandam Power signs PPA and gas supply deals
Utility secures feedstock and buyer for the output of its 120MW power project.
Musandam Power Co (MPC) has signed long-term power purchase agreement with Oman Power and Water Procurement Co (OPWP) for its 120MW power project.
The utility has also penned a deal with with Oman's Ministry of Oil and Gas to supply the natural gas feedstock for the plant.
MPC, which is majority owned by Oman Oil Co's (OOC), has also signed project financing agreements and achieved financial close with Bank Muscat.
The dual-fuel independent power plant, the Musandam IPP, will be built in Tibat, Musandam's Bukha wilayat and is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2016.
Wartsila has an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract and long-term service agreement for the Musandam IPP.
The Finnish company will design, procure, engineer, construct, and commission the power plant as well as provide ongoing maintenance and performance monitoring throughout the project’s lifecycle.
The Musandam IPP will use natural gas as the main fuel with diesel used during emergencies.
The electricity generated by the project will be transmitted to the existing medium voltage grid through the new 132kV lines being laid by Rural Area Electricity Co.
