OPWP tenders for temporary desalination plants
Five companies shortlisted for contract to develop stop gap facilities.
Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has floated a tender for setting up temporary water desalination plants while work on larger plants continues.
Five companies -- Aflaj Al Khaleej Trading & Contracting Company, Ismoflow, Seven Seas, House of Trading and Services and Advanced Oilfield Technology - have submitted bids for providing temporary water solution services, OPWP said in a statement.
Water demand in Oman is rising rapidly and areas in the north of the country, including the capital city Muscat, have recently seen water shortages during the hottest months as demand for cooling peaked.
Demand for potable water is projected to grow by 6% per year over the next five years to 349 million m3 in 2020.
OPWP is building a series of new desalination plants at in Muscat, Barka, Sohar and Quriyyat with plans to add new capacity further south in Salalah and Duqm.
