Consortium secures Qatar mega reservoir finance
Al Khaliji Commercial Bank extends backing for JV building one of the sites.
Al Khalij Commercial Bank (al khaliji) has extended financing to a joint venture involved in the construction of Qatar’s mega reservoir project.
Consolidated Contractors Group (CCC) and Teyseer Contracting Company are developing the Mega Reservoir PRPS 5-Al Thumama (Package C).
The Water Security Mega Reservoir Project aims to increase Qatar’s potable water storage capacity to seven days’ supply. Reservoirs and pumping stations will be constructed at five strategic sites along the Qatar National Utility Corridor.
Sites will ultimately comprise up to nine reservoirs, each of which will be the largest of their type in the world
The first phase of the project, which is currently under implementation, will deliver storage capacity of about 2,300 million gallons of water in 24 huge concrete reservoirs and some 480km of buried ductile iron pipelines with diameter up to 1.6m.
The second stage of the project, which will be implemented after 2020, will include construction of additional pipelines and 16 new reservoirs within the 5 mega sites to achieve an ultimate total storage capacity of about 3,800 million gallons of water.
