ABB wins order to kit out power plant in Egypt

WDEPC awards US $31million contract for products to equip new plant

The West Delta Electricity Production Company has awarded a US $31million contract for products to equip the new Abu Qir thermal power plant in Egypt.

The plant, which will be powered by two 650 MW steam generators, is part of a programme of development to help meet growing demand for electricity in Egypt. ABB will provide engineering expertise and power products, including transformers and generator circuit breakers. The project is expected to be completed in 2012.

“ABB technology will contribute significantly to the reliability and efficiency of the new plant,” said Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s Power Systems division, in a statement. “Our domain expertise and proven track record in managing similar projects will play a key role in ensuring successful execution.”

WDEPC supplies electricity to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, and to distribution companies around the country.
