Sepco secures $50mn loan for plant expansion
Jordanian company will add 70MW to existing 1,170MW capacity of project in Zarqa.
Samra Electric Power Company (SEPCO) has secured a loan from Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) to fund the expansion of its power plant in Zarqa.
The Kuwait-based fund will provide KWD16mn ($53mn) for the project to add one steam generating unit to the 1,170MW plant 35km north of Amman.
This upgrade will add a further 70MW to the gas-fired plant which started out with 300MW in 2007.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Finance, Umayya Toukan, AFESD's Chairman Abdulatif Al-Hamad, and attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury, along with SEPCO Managing Director Amjad Rawashdeh.
