Ras Abu Fontas (A2) treatment plant nearly ready
Expansion of Qatari plant reaches 98% complete and will open in June.
The expansion Qatar’s Ras Abu Fontas (A2) water treatment plant is 98% complete and will be finished in June, according to Qatar Electricity and Water Company’s (QWEC) annual report.
QEWC sanctioned the 136,000 m3 per day plant in January 2013 at a cost of $500mn.
Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, chairman of QEWC, said at the company’s annual general meeting that it has begun to study the possibility of renewable energy projects as well as coal. Gulf Times reported.
QEWC made a net profit of QAR 1.53bn ($420mn) last year, up 11% from 2013.
