DEWA extends Hassyan clean coal project deadline
Bidders given extra two months until 26 March to submit bids.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has extended the bid deadline for the Hassyan Clean Coal Power Project – Phase I by a further two months.
Bidders requested the extension to provide more time with which to make their bids fully-compliant with DEWA’s requirements.
The new bid submission is 26 March 2015 for the plant which will be based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model.
“This IPP-based clean coal project is a key step in the implementation of the energy diversification strategy formulated by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, to introduce clean coal based electricity generation into Dubai’s energy mix,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
“Through such ground-breaking projects, DEWA will continue to complete energy projects that also contribute to meeting Dubai’s growing energy requirements and support the sustainable growth of the Emirate.”
DEWA released the tender to qualified bidders on 22 July 2014. The first phase of the project has a capacity of 1,200 MW using coal, and is expected to be operational by 2020.
