ACWA Power submitted the lowest bid for the 100MW expansion of Dubai’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum Solar Park.

The Saudi company offered to sell power to the state utility at just under $6 cents per kWh, according to DEWA’s website.

This compares to a highest bid of $14.7 cents per kWh by Chinese developer Huaneng Power International.

The average of the 10 shortlisted bids was $9.35 cents/kWh while First Solar, the developer of the initial 13MW pilot phase of the project, placed a bid of $8.65 cents/kWh.

DEWA plans to incrementally build the capacity of the solar park to an eventual 1,000MW.

Unconfirmed reports say ACWA Power bid to build the entire 1,000MW at just $5.4 cents per kWh.
