DEWA selects 10 for solar park expansion
Race for 100MW expansion contract enters final straight.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has shortlisted 10 bidders for the 100MW expansion of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid AL Maktoum Solar Park.
The bids will be reviewed according to the criteria developed by the advisory committee that oversees the project, the utility said in a statement.
Though it gave no indication when it will select the project developer for the project, a decision is expected early next year.
Based on PV technology, the 100MW second phase of the solar park is due to be operational in 2017.
“The tender for this project, which will be implemented in partnership with the private sector, is a key step towards achieving the objectives of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, in which solar-powered electricity is set to become part of Dubai’s energy portfolio,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
The 49 developers that expressed interest following the release of the tender in April was first cut to 24 ahead of the second round of bidding which closed on 24 November.
