Saudi Electricity signs $682.5mn Riyadh metro deal
The six line urban rail link is due to be rolled out in 2019.
Saudi Electricity Co has signed contracts worth SAR2.56bn ($682.5mn) to supply power to the Riyadh metro, which is currently under construction, the Kingdom's state news agency reported on Tuesday.
The seven contracts are to build stations and lay cables for the rail system in the Saudi capital.
The Saudi Arabian government awarded in July 2013 contracts worth $22.5bn to three foreign-led consortia for the design and construction of the metro due to be completed in 2019.
The multi-billion project will involve six rail lines extending 176km and carrying electric, driverless trains, in what Saudi officials project to be the world's largest public transport system.
