Acciona Agua wins $25mn Oman desal plant
Spanish company claims its first contract in the Sultanate.
Majis Industrial Services has awarded Acciona Agua, in a consortium with Sogex Oman, a $25mn contract for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the desalination plant at Sohar Port in Oman.
The agreement is effective for five years, with a possible two-year extension.
State-owned Majis Industrial Services is the exclusive water supplier for all the industrial customers in the Industrial Port of Sohar.
The scope of work includes the technical redesign and improvement of the plant, and the planned production capacity of the plant is 20,000 cubic metres day - either potable water or for industrial processes - and includes two sections of potable water piping and two backup pumping stations for seawater.
It is the fourth large-scale contract won by Acionna Agua in the Middle East and its first in the Sultanate of Oman
Last year, the company was awarded O&M contracts for the Haddah & Arana treatment plants in Saudi Arabia and another for the design, construction and start-up of the seawater desalination plant at Al Jubail (also in Saudi Arabia), plus the design, construction, start-up and operation over seven years of the extension of the Fujairah desalination plant in the UAE.
