Mitsubishi joins Jordan's largest solar project
Japanese firm joins Kawar and QEWC in 52.5MW Shams Ma'an power.
Mitsubishi Corporation has purchased a 35% stake in the largest solar photovoltaic project in Jordan.
The Japanese firm has taken the equity in the 52.5MW in Shams Ma’an through wholly owned subsidiary Diamond Generating Europe.
Jordan’s Kawar Group (Kawar) operates the project with a 30% while Nebras Power, a subsidiary of Qatar Electricity & Water Company.
Operations at the plant in the Ma’an Development Area (MDA) in the south of Jordan are scheduled to start in early 2016, Mitsubishi said in a statement.
Jordan faces an increase in electricity demand of 7% per year due to steady economic growth
A renewable energy law, enacted in 2012, also targets developing approximately 1,600 MW of renewable energy by 2020.
Mitsubishi said it would continue to seek out opportunities that contribute to the stable supply of electricity and clean energy development in Jordan.
