SWCC produces 1 billion cubic metres of water
Company provides 60% of Saudi Arabia’s desalination output in 2013.
Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Conversion Corp produced just over 1 billion cubic meters of desalinated water last year.
The output was split evenly between east and west coast desalination plants, the official Saudi Press Agency said, citing SWCC’s annual report.
SWCC produced 25 million megawatts of power at 27 desalination plants providing electricity to 41 cities and housing centers.
The production of 3.6 million cubic meters a day of desalinated water by SWCC represented 60 percent of the kingdom’s total output, the news service said.
Saudi Arabia allocated SAR 16.6 bn ($4.4 bn) this year for desalination projects to boost water supply to meet rising demand from a growing population and the energy industry.
