Germany's IBC Solar is considering tendering for Dubai’s 100MW solar power project as part of plans to boost its presence in the Middle East.

The EPC contractor has now appointed a dedicated area manager for the region with a view to expanding its footprint.

“We are already building a 1 MW system in Kuwait and we have followed the market for more than one year.

“We have now appointed an area manager and asked them to develop our strategy in the region,” Jan-Marc Raitz, director of commercial management and EPC sales, told PV Tech during the Intersolar Europe event last week.

"The market will come. We had a visitor from a huge industrial complex in Bahrain who is interested in saving energy and wants to explore putting solar on the roof.

“We had a construction company from Saudi Arabia looking for a technology partner.

“DEWA in Dubai has launched a 100MW tender. We are currently discussing whether or not to take part in that tender,” Raitz said.

DEWA currently operates a 13 MW pilot solar power project and is tendering for a 100 MW first phase expansion.
