Construction of a new water pipeline to supply central areas of Dubai has moved beyond the half way stage.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has put the finishing touches to 60% of the AED 360mn ($98mn) project, it announced.

The completed 40km stretch of pipeline will deliver volumes to the Dubai-Al Ain road, Dubai bypass road, Doha Street and the camel racetrack.

When finished the project will run to 67 km with pipes of diameters of 600mm, 900mm, and 1,200 mm.

It will meet demand in areas such as Dubailand, Al Khawaneej, the camel Racetrack and Mirdif," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

DEWA is on track to complete the project on time by the end of the year, he added.
