DEWA awarded for G-station projects
The G-Station and L-Stations are among DEWA's most important projects
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ( DEWA ) has won the Emirates Appreciation Award for the Environment from the Zayed International Foundation For Environment.
The Innovation, Invention and Environmental Research Award is for successfully implementing two projects to raise the efficiency and capacity of four gas turbines in power production by applying Wet Compression technology at G-Station, and three gas turbines by using the Inlet Air Chilling technology in the first phase of L-Station. These two projects are considered to be among the most important that DEWA has completed over the last few years as a means of enhancing efficiency, capacity and production, and minimising environmental pollution.
By completing these two projects, DEWA has succeeded in enhancing the efficiency and productivity of these turbines and also reducing gas emissions at certain times. DEWA has decided to apply Wet Compression technology to the fifth gas turbine at G-Station and the three bigger gas turbines at K-Station based on these impressive results.
" DEWA has made unprecedented achievements, which place it at global levels and make it a good model to follow in terms of performance, reliability and production efficiency in accordance with benchmarks with similar top European and American utilities. Also, DEWA has made great achievements in enhancing the capacity of its power generators and preserving the environment. These achievements include improving the efficiency of power generation and water desalination by 7%, and production capacity by 12-15%, reducing gas emissions by 7-40%, and made a capital savings of AED 1,050 million and operational savings of AED 66 million per year. Also, CO2 emissions were reduced by 132,000 tons per year, which is equal to planting 6 million trees. All these efforts led to unprecedented achievements in enhancing the efficiency and production capacity of turbines and reducing gas emissions through the two projects of Wet Compression and Central Cooling of air inlets, which were accomplished by DEWA ?s Generation Division," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
"These achievements supports the directives of our visionary leadership and their relentless efforts to be ranked in first place through considerable determination, sincere dedication and excellent performance. DEWA is taking the same path, working on other developmental projects, and enhancing the capacity and efficiency of its infrastructure, updating them and promoting its service to the highest levels of reliability and efficiency of services and information to achieve sustainable development in Dubai as part of the Emirate?s future vision and strategy and in line with the vision, mission and motto of DEWA , which focuses on sustainability and delivering services at a world-class levels of reliability and efficiency," said Al Tayer.
