Oman’s authorities are expected to issue a Request for Qualifications (RfQ) inviting interested international developers to submit their credentials who wish to participate in a competitive tender for the development of the sultanate's biggest Independent Power Project (IPP), Oman Daily Observer reported.

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) is overseeing the procurement of the new project. The generation capacity of the IPP is estimated at 2,500 to 3,000MW.

Citing escalating electricity demand, which is growing at an annual rate of around 9 per cent, OPWP has identified the need for additional power capacity of around 800-1000MW by 2017 and an additional capacity of 1500-2000MW by 2018.
