Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched a campaign to raise awareness on water consumption, DEWA declared on its official official Twitter page.

The campaign aims to point out the impact of unnecessary consumption of water on the environment. The drive will identify simple methods that residents can follow to reduce their use.

According to DEWA, residential areas have the highest rate of water consumption at 57 per cent, compared to 27 per cent for commercial areas, and three per cent only for industrial areas across its customer base.

“Given that 97 per cent of the total water production in Dubai is through desalination, an energy intensive process, the rational consumption of water in residential areas is necessary to achieve water savings, reduce fuel consumption, and in turn, carbon emissions,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive of DEWA, as quotes by Gulf News.
