Questions remain over new 1,500MW ADWEA plant
Site location and plant feedstock remain unknown
With peak power demand jumping by 11% despite the economic crisis, the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity and Water Authority (ADWEA) has remained tight-lipped on details of its new 1,500MW plant, although the project will be revealed to bidders in January.
The location of the plant is still unknown, with the company's recent plants based in Taweelah, Shuweihat and Fujairah.
Another key issue is the feedstock for the plant, which could be oil.
The National newspaper quoted Abdulla Al Nuaimi, ADWEA's director of privatisation, as saying that "there is a possibillity" that oil could be used, although no final decision had yet been made.
The plant could be commissioned as early as 2013, and will include a desalination plant with a capacity of up to 100 million gallons a day.
