Empower reveals design of new Business Bay plant
New DC facility set to have 50,000 RT cooling capacity
District cooling giant Empower has revealed the design of its new Business Bay plant during the opening of Dubai’s Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), according to Emirates News Agency. The new facility has been hailed as the ‘greenest plant of its kind in the region’ and will have a 50,000 RT cooling output capacity when completed.
Empower has said that the new plant, which will supply commercial and residential properties, will require 0.9KW to produce one RT of cooling, compared with up to 1.8KW required by traditional non-district cooling systems.
Empower CEO, Ahmed Bin Shafar, said: “Empower seeks to accelerate the pace of replacing traditional systems with new environmentally friendly technology, which will conserve precious water resources and decrease our carbon footprint. This new plant reflects Empower’s continued commitment to the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to use the most energy efficient technologies available.”
