Suspected militant attack on Pakistan power site
Reports says facility in northwest Pakistan has been attacked
Seven people are reported to have been killed in a suspected militant attack on a key power station in Pakistan’s northwest, according to Reuters. Dozens of attackers assaulted the site in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with mortars and rocket-propelled grenades, knocking out power to half of the city of Peshawar.
A police spokesperson is reported to have said that a policeman and a security guard were killed at the site, during the attack on April 1st, and five others were killed after being kidnapped following the incident. Another four employees of the facility are still unaccounted for.
The entire grid station has been destroyed, after the attackers set everything on fire, and Peshawar Electric Supply Company has warned that “people may face some extra power load shedding in the coming days”.
