Oman’s Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAECO) is reportedly in an “advanced stage” to signing agreements to build pilot solar and wind power projects, according to the Times of Oman. The deals – with private developers – will see a solar pilot built in Mazyona and a wind project at Masirah, in an effort to test the technologies in the climatic conditions of Oman.

The Mazyona solar pilot will see the construction of a 350kW facility, developed as an independent power project. The wind project at Masiarah will have a capacity of 750kW. In both cases, the location of the schemes has already been decided.

RAECO is set to purchase all the power produced from the pilot schemes.
