Siemens has announced that it has finalised a contract with Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) for the supply and installation of new switchgear at a facility in Mesaieed. Under the deal, the firm will provide 33kV gas insulated switchgear, and 11 kV and 3.3kV air insulated switchgear for the QAPCO facility’s substation.

The deal sees the replacement of existing equipment with more compact, higher-rated technology which Siemens says will boost the reliability of the network’s power distribution. The firm will also supply integrated power management hardware and software, providing the facility with an intelligent and centralised power management system.

“Siemens has been a reliable and trusted partner to QAPCO since the early 1980s, and this latest contract award is an excellent demonstration of the extensive capabilities of Siemens, integrating different technologies from across the company’s energy portfolio,” said Siemens WLL Qatar general manager, oil & gas division, Hamad Al Khayyat.

“The turnkey supply of innovative and reliable power transmission equipment combined with advanced power management software and hardware perfectly illustrates how Siemens can utilise its diverse portfolio and strong local expertise to operate as a complete engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for Middle Eastern customers,” he added.
