Technology transfer a 'critical issue'
Energy expert plays up role of transferring technology
Technology transfer is a key issue, critical to advancing sustainable energy, according to an industry insider.
Binu Pathan, deputy director general of the Renewable Energy and Efficiency Partnership, made the statement in the wake of a World Bank report which highlights the opportunity for developing countries to shift to lower carbon paths while promoting development and reducing poverty.
“Technology transfer is a critical issue to advancing sustainable energy. More importantly, a large share of developing countries lack adequate national technology innovation and technology absorption capacity. Technology transfer without national or regional capacity will not result in advancing sustainable energy,” stated Pathan.
“There is also the question of financing technology transfer. With the UN Climate Change discussions and the World Future Energy Summit approaching we hope to have some solid outcomes on these issues,” he added.
Pathan will be a speaker at the upcoming World Future Energy Summit, to be held in Abu Dhabi next January.
