Yemen approves $20m wind power loan
Government approves financing as part of $125m scheme
Yemen News Agency (SABA) has reported that the country’s government has, this week, approved a US $20 million loan agreement that will help finance a wind power scheme. The project, planned to be sited at Mocha, was originally planned following an agreement between Yemen and the OPEC Fund for International Development.
The country’s prime minister, Mohammed Salem Basindwa, chaired the meeting as the cabinet agreed to finalise legal procedures to ratify the agreement.
The project has total development costs of around $125 million, and is aimed at helping boost the country’s generation capacity without relying on fossil fuels.
