Toshiba Corporation and Alstom Grid have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to discuss a complementary partnership in smart grid developments. The two firms are set to look at how they can cooperate to realise electricity management solutions that can be used in different regions and environments.

The firms have said that they expect the collaboration will help to develop systems that can better support the integration of renewable energy into the grid – a key concern for many countries and companies developing smart grids. Also under consideration will be how smart solutions can be promoted around the world, and how they can help force down the cost of power.

The partnership will see the firms bring together Alstom’s grid management solutions – including vast experience with transmission and distribution equipment – and Toshiba’s product range that includes smart meters and storage batteries, together with its customer-point power distribution equipment.
