The UAE and Jordan have held talks over shared investment opportunities which the UAE’s Minister of Economy H.E. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri has said will “provide a broad range of economic potentials of mutual interest.” The UAE is considering investments in Jordan’s water and renewable energy sectors, in addition to other development projects.

Jordan’s Minister of Finance Sulaiman Al Hafez and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jafar Hassan briefed Al Mansouri on a package of new Jordanian projects. The prospects of cooperation in the renewable energy sphere were raised with particular reference to the UAE’s experience of the sector – including the work underway at Masdar and as the host of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Also under discussion were ways to encourage economic cooperation between private companies in both countries.

Jordan is currently investigating the potential of boosting its solar uptake as a means to help alleviate a power supply deficit that has led to regular power outages over the summer months.
