Rotork Controls has supplied over one hundred IQ intelligent electric valve actuators for Velan wedge gate and parallel slide valves at China’s Taishan Nuclear Power Station. The power project is set to be one of the world’s largest nuclear power stations, and the first phase includes the construction of two power plants – which will use European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) technology – with the world’s largest capacity at 1750 MW.

Rotork’s equipment – made in sizes up to 36 inches and pressure ratings of up to Class 1500 – will be used to perform feed water and steam isolation duties. The IQ actuators were supplied by Rotork Controls Canada, and feature data-logging and predictive maintenance capabilities. The firm says that reliability is enhanced further through the double-sealed IP68 watertight enclosure.
