Movenpick Hotels make Olympic-sized water savings
Hotel chain makes significant water savings in all properties
Movenpick Hotels and Resorts have announced that recent energy and water consumption efforts have resulted in a reduction in water usage of 129,345m3 over the last year across hotels in the UAE, Qatar, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi, Kuwait and Bahrain. The company has also reduced carbon dioxide emissions over the same period by 11,765 tonnes.
Movenpick vice president of operations in the Middle East and India, Gerard Hotelier, has said that the energy savings made in the last 12 months are equivalent to powering a 200-room hotel for one and half years.
“The total savings on utilities in this period are almost USD $700,000 and this represent s a 4% savings in water and electricity costs, while at the same time we have seen a 8.3% increase in occupancy across the properties,” he said.
Green Globe Certification, the company that has been contracted to certify all Movenpick’s hotels, has said that the water reduction measures are equivalent to saving one Olympic-sized pool of water per week, each week for a year.
