Oman’s Rural Areas Electricity Authority has undertaken six pilot projects, partnering with private sector developers to provide renewable electricity generation.
Hamed bin Salim al Maghderi, RAECO’s general manager, told the Oman Construction Summit that the projects range from 200 kilowatts to 3.5 megawatts, and will be using both solar and wind technology.
36 pilot proposals for developing Oman’s wind and solar sectors were submitted by private developers, of which six have been selected by RAECO. The largest pilot, a 3MW solar project, will be based in Haima in Wusta Governorate, and two further 3MW projects, this time using wind technology, are to be constructed at Masirah and Thamrait.
