District cooling is playing an ever more important role in the GCC utilities sector.

National Tri-Generational CHP Company (NTCC) has been awarded a major contract to provide district cooling and power generation services to Jeddah 2nd Industrial City.

The NTCC system will provide around 100,000 tonnes of district cooling services, as well as about 80MW of power.

The project, awarded by Saudi Industrial Property Authority (MODON) is earmarked to be completed by the end of 2011.

"The district cooling technique is wide-spread, due to the value this technique adds compared to the conventional cooling techniques, and its consumption of far less energy compared with the conventional cooling systems,” said HE Dr Tawfiq bin Fawzan Alrabiah, director general of MODON.

The eight-million-square-metre Jeddah 2nd Industrial City is one of 18 existing industrial cities overseen by MODON.
