1,500MW power/water plant for Abu Dhabi
New ADWEA facility to cope with 12pc annual power demand increase
While few details have been revealed, the Director General of Abu Dhabi Water and Electricty Authority, Abdullah Saif Al Nuaimi, has said that the utility is planning to construct a 1,500 megawatt power plant in the emirate. It will also be capable of producing 100 million gallons of water per day, but details on cost, contractors, location and whether or not there will be private sector involvement have yet to be revealed.
Abu Dhabi is currently seeing an annual increase in electricity demand of 12 per cent, and water at five per cent, making a new power and water facility essential to maintain enough capacity to stay ahead of demand.
