Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, has announced that the nation will begin the production of plate-type nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor in the first quarter of 2012.

He also said that the country has already produced almost 70 kg of uranium that has been enriched to 20 per cent purity. A plant for the manufacturing of nuclear fuel plates has been constructed at the Isfahan facility, making the country one of the few in the world capable of manufacturing both fuel rods and plates.
