First Saudi solar plant inaugurated
Farasan Island sees 500kw of solar power
Saudi Arabia’s first solar plant has been inaugurated by Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Suwayed, the undersecretary of the Jazan governorate.
With a production capacity of 500 kilowatts, the plant was established by the Saudi Electric Company in collaboration with Showa Shell, from Japan. Located on Farasan Island, the plant’s assets will be owned by Showa Shell for up to 15 years, following which the assets will be transferred to the Saudi Electric Company.
