As the end of September submission deadline for the Haya Water Amerat wastewater treatment plant looms, 33 firms have so far expressed an interest in the construction.

Big names including Larsen & Toubro, Veolia, Al Hassan Engineering and ACWA are all in the running for the design, build and maintenance contract, which is expected to be awarded in the second quarter of 2012. Construction will start six months after the contract is awarded, with the completion date tipped for 30 months after that.

In a report by the Muscat Daily, Haya Water chief executive Omar al Wahaibi said that the plant’s development would be key to the development of the entire sewerage system in the Wilayat, adding that it would cover a significant part of Amerat.
